iSTEM, an public, independent, STEM school is expanding its academic
program to serve students in grade 6 beginning in August, 2023. This expansion will allow
iSTEM to serve students in grades 6-12. iSTEM is designated by the Ohio Department of
Education as 1 of 7 independent STEM schools across Ohio. All students residing in Ohio are
welcome to enroll in independent STEM schools. Currently, iSTEM students reside in Ashtabula,
Lake, Geauga and Cuyahoga counties. Registration is now open for iSTEM grades 6-12 and new
students are encouraged to register for the upcoming school year.
Opening in 2015, after being awarded a $5.9 million Straight A grant, iSTEM and The
Educational Service Center of the Western Reserve (formerly Geauga ESC) has met the STEM
academic needs of students in the surrounding communities. iSTEM provides a public, STEM
school option that is tuition free. A STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics)
education provides students with opportunities that engage minds with meaningful and
engaging learning from the time they begin middle school until they enter college or specialized
industries that affect our daily lives. At iSTEM, students will encounter interdisciplinary,
hands-on, problem-based learning that blends every course into real-world experiences and
assignments that push students beyond the classroom and into a meaningful future.
